WHAT IS A GICLÉE

"Giclée" is a French term which means to spray ink. The pronunciation of giclée is "zhee-clay." Today in the art world the giclée is considered to be the highest quality reproduction available far surpassing the quality of any lithograph or serigraph.

A giclée is the reproduction of an original work of art using a highly specialized inkjet printer. The entire process of production to achieve the final fine art giclée is an artistic endeavor within itself, requiring a great deal of patience and skill. Matching the giclée to the original painting is a demanding process. This requires the use of a colorist and is overseen by the artist. At ClearView Galleries this process usually takes anywhere from two to four weeks, depending on the challenges posed by each image. ClearView Galleries limited edition giclées are printed on specially treated canvas using archival inks and then lacquered to increase their colorfastness and longevity thereby creating an exquisite product that has all the characteristics of the original painting.
